News Release #31

April 14, 2012 Largo, FL – The Sunrise Table Tennis Club in conjunction with the full time table tennis club Spin City Sports sponsored the 2012 Spring Break Sandpaper Challenge.  Tournament Director and Florida State FASTT Director Bill Robbins was ably assisted by FASTT Graphic Designer Carolyn Adams to create an enjoyable event for all.

First up were the Amateurs.  Playing in his first FASTT event, Ted Ostrowski of Largo, FL ran away with the title without the drop of a game.  Ted beat Nancy Dorsey of Brooksville, FL in the finals however Nancy picked up enough points to become the #1 Amateur in the US.  Newcomer Callaghan Keane of Treasure Island, FL finished in 3rd place.

Next up were the Pros.  Exactly one week before his wedding day, Kit Jeerapaet of Tampa, FL decided to take the plunge into the sandpaper arena.  Kit face US sandpaper #1 Ty Hoff of Palm Harbor, FL in the finals.  Most said that it was only a matter of time until Kit took down Ty because of the numerous close calls in Ty holding off the talented Kit and they were right.  Ty built a huge 17-8 lead in the first game but seemed to fall asleep as Kit ran off 10 straight points to win the first game in deuce.  Gaining confidence, Kit was unstoppable winning the second game with ease and taking his first FASTT Pro title.  Al Palumbo of Safety Harbor, FL finished in 3rd place.
